advice for new 2nd career nursing student

by wf3h@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bob) Aug 18, 2005 at 02:47 AM

OK here's the situation....

I'm entering an associate's degree nursing program at the local
community college in 2 weeks. I'm a 2nd career student, having spent
25 years in chemical engineering, and having an M.S. in chemistry. My
questions are:

1. Academics

I'm taking A&P I, english II (yes, they're making me take that), and
nursing clinical rotation.

How challenging is this going to be, given the workload? Having done
chemistry, I'm familiar with labs, so know the A&P lab along with the
nursing lab will be work. Total load this semester is 15 credits.

Most of the other students have taken the academic courses, so will be
taking only the nursing courses. Many of them, however work, which I
won't be doing.

2. Job prospects

I already know nursing is the fastest growing field. With my
background, what prospects do I have? With the ADN, and M.S., along
with technical professional experience, (and work in the USCG), how
will employers treat me compared to new ADN and BSN students? What
type of employment options will be open?

3. Advice

Any advice for success over the next 2 years?

Thanks all...

Bob
