I'm a writer and currently playing with the idea about a couple that are
accidentally given the wrong baby after birth. The nurse who made the
mistake realizes it a few days later but doesn't admit to it until months
later.
I was wondering what the procedure would be in such a situation? Would
there
be a meeting between the two families and a doctor? Would the chairmen of
the board be involved? Blood tests?
My story has nothing to do with painting a bad picture of the health care
profession; it has to do with parental and maternal instincts. I just need
this information for a small part of the story in order to paint a
realistic
picture of how a hospital would deal with such a situation. I know that
something like this is unlikely but it is not impossible. My aunt was sent
home with the wrong baby for 2 days. The funny thing is that everyone said
he looked just like his father!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
