Hey Jake,
I've looked into the property situation at Neabsco a little more
after meeting, "Steve" on the creek one day. I'm posting what I found
out, FWIW. ;-)
PW Co. has a web-site with all it's GIS data online in the form of
overlays on Aerial Maps. This is a FAR CRY from Ffx. co. which charges
$25.00 A MAP for any property map and puts NOTHING
on-line that I can find. The URL for PW Co. is here:
http://www.pwcgov.org/default.aspx?topic=040031000120001312
Based on that, the eastern bank of the Neabsco from Cardinal Dr.
north to roughly the first bend in the creek north of the adjacent
Rest Stop is all public land - meaning VDOT - which is my definition
of public land from fossil collecting in the past. Actually, state
prop.
along the Neabsco continues under the bridges but you should see that
on the maps for yourself.
Also, Va. prospectors ahould be aware of this URL:
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+28.2-1203
Which is Code of VA: 28.2-1203 which allows for "Recreational
Gold Mining" specifically. It makes what we do legal under the
specific provisions of the statue. I will carry copies of the above
maps and law every time I go there from now on!
Now between you, me and whoever is reading,....getting *access* to
that bank might involve a wee, tiny bit of trespass or as I call it,
"creative geography" across other people's property since parking
is not allowed on I-95 (limit 2 hrs. at Rest Stops). But just make
sure you pan on the East Bank . That ought to be 100% legal.
FWIW,
Andrew
