Greetings,
Well, I'm bummed. Friday was my third try at Deep Run just south of
Goldvein, VA.
Nada, Zip, Zilch. And let me tell ya I'm tired of panning bags and I ain't
gonna do
it no more unless I can find some REAL gold - meaning out of the earth !
My first trip was just getting my pan wet really. My 2nd was better, more
experienced
but not very long. This time I really thought was it. The creek should be
good, I had
a shovel, trowel, home-made classifier, and lots more knowledge. Located
bedrock
and went right into the crevices, even scratching sand out with bare hands
at times
to get the best "concentrates" that site would give. Tried three sites
over about 100
yards of stream over 5 1/2 hours of work and came up with ---- S-H-I-T.
Now to be fair, It was a lovely day and a beautiful stream (ignoring the
pollution downstream).
The waters bubbled under the spreading bowers of stately hardwoods in this
classic Virginia
Piedmont landscape. And this time I also brought a Hunter's "pigeon stool"
so I had a dry seat.
Gatorade and Jack Links Jerky were my ambrosia.
But no G-D gold! And it was my birthday too.
What do I have to do to get some?
I weep, alas.
Andrew
By the way, If you are a Tolkien/Lord of the Rings fan like my kids and I
are you might get a
laugh knowing that my kids got a kick comparing me to Gollum who went
crazy on *his* birthday
for his Precious : The magic Golden Ring that his brother found in the
stream and Gollum killed to
obtain. "Give us the Precioussss ! "<grin>
