I spent about three hours under the bridge that goes over Deep Run just
below Goldvein.
I got zilch. Well, that's not exactly true, I got sore legs and hungry. I
had heard this was
about the only spot on Deep Run where it's not on private land as it's
under VDOT due
to the bridge. Access was *not* easy; either slide/slip/fall down the
slippery slopes or
stumble down the Copperhead Rocks - I chose the rocks as I went in hightop
boots
rather than waders,etc.
I could see piles of pebbles, etc. in the stream from other Panners but not
many, In fact,
it was quite peaceful and I wandered upstream some in total privacy. Black
sand seem
to increase upstream but no yellow stuff, alas! Easy to work the stream
bed though I see
I need to get some classifiers - Do you use them? All I ever use is a 2.99
"Sand Sifter"
from 'Lil Tikes toy comp. - small 1/4" slots that fits nicely in a 10"
clean-up. Then pan
what's left. (Also comes with a cute turtle-face on it! - My kids laughed
themselves silly).
I consoled myself by going over to the museum and panning two pieces outta
the public
pan-for-free trough. The museum was closed but the curator had forgotten
to drain the
troughs.
FWIW,
Andrew
