Deal spares drag racer prison time in Selmer car show crash
Wednesday, August 13, 2008
A professional drag racer charged with killing six spectators when he lost
control of his car during a show in West Tennessee has agreed to plead
guilty to lesser charges as part of a deal that will spare him jail time.
Critchley, an Australian professional driver living in Texas, was charged
with six counts of reckless vehicular homicide and 22 counts of aggravated
assault in last year's crash at the Cars for Kids festival in Selmer,
about
80 miles east of Memphis.
Under terms of the deal released to the media Tuesday, Critchley will
plead
guilty to 28 counts of reckless simple assault, a misdemeanor, and will
spend 18 months on probation. He will not be fined or have to pay
restitution; only court costs.
Last June, Critchley's dragster was being put through tire-burning stunts
on an open city street when it spun into a crowd of unprotected
spectators.
Besides the six people killed, more than two dozen other spectators were
hurt, many seriously.

Yet another criminal coddling record for this sick county.
