****TLAND, Maine—A 20-year-old Scarborough man will not be serving any jail
time for a car crash last summer that took the life of his foster sister.
A judge in ****tland imposed a $1,000 fine and a seven-month license
suspension on John Heger.
Heger was behind wheel of a car that veered off Black Point Road in
Scarborough on July 12, 2007, killing Brittany Burke.
After the original charge of manslaughter was dropped, Heger pleaded
guilty
to criminal speeding and driving to endanger.
The prosecution sought a six-month jail term, but Superior Court Justice
William Brodrick opted for leniency after Burke's mother said Heger will
suffer enough from the memory of the fatal accident.
