Aircraft Carrier Hold-Back Mechanism ?

by "Robert11" <rgsros@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 18, 2007 at 08:09 PM

Hello:

Just something I'm very curious about.

Re the hold-back mechanism used in aircraft carrier catapaults:

Anyone know how they work ?
How they are adjusted for different hold back loads ?
Are there any break away pieces at all ?
etc.

in the "old days," I believe they used a frangible bolt that actually
broke.
