IKE TO COST USA $100 BILLION

by Daily Planet Media <info@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sep 14, 2008 at 09:35 PM

Hurricane Ike's economic impact would cost the USA around $100
billion, according to the Texas Department of Emergency Management.

Oil companies had abandoned 13 refineries that represented a fifth of
the total US refinery capacity.

Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison told Daily Planet Media that Ike
"would hurt many, many people. People tell me this one will really
hurt."

More than a million people fled inland before Ike made landfall
earlier today pu****ng ashore waves measuring as high as a two-story
house.

An estimated 3.5 million people in southeast Texas are without power,
following an unprecedented surge that inundated swathes of coastal
land. Galveston Island was swamped while powerful winds whipped
Houston.
