Sagan's True Legacy - Awe, Wonder, and The Uncompromising Skeptic

by "Painius" <starswirlernosp@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 29, 2008 at 04:08 PM

Carl Sagan was one of those rare ones who could
somehow balance a high degree of wonder and awe
with the uncompromising eye of a skeptic. So if you
don't read anything else this year, please do read his
"Wonder and Skepticism" (if you want to know how
he did it)...

In the above writing, Sagan referenced the following...

You may already know that "C.S.I.C.O.P." (it was the
"Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims
of the Paranormal"), changed its name awhile back to
"C.S.I.", the "Committee for Skeptical Inquiry". One
of the reasons for the change was cute. Seems that
CSICOP was often being mistaken for a "paranormal"
group rather than a skeptical group by people who
didn't know much about them. And all because the
word "paranormal" was a part of their name! Funny
what people might focus upon sometimes, ain't it?

We *tend* to see only what we *want* to see? <g>

happy days and...
   starry starry nights!

Indelibly yours,
Paine Ellsworth

P.S.: Thank *YOU* for reading!
